$500 First Prize in essay contest!

PFLAG Austin Deirdre Furr Essay Prize is an annual LGBTQ themed essay contest in honor of Deirdre Furr, a Language Arts teacher at Georgetown High School who founded the districts first Gay Straight Alliance. 

This year the contest is open to high school age students in Central Texas.  Prizes are in cash.  First prize is $500, second prize is $200, and third prize is $100.

This year's essay subject is: "What challenges do LGBTQIA+ students face when attempting to share in romantic, intimate, or companionate relationships in high school?"

Contest deadline is March 1, 2018.

Essays should be 500 to 1000 words and are due March 1st, 2018
