Mission
PFLAG Austin is a chapter of a national non-profit organization, and provides free, confidential support groups for Austin, Texas area LGBTQ persons (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning) along with their family and friends. PFLAG Austin is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a local chapter of the national PFLAG organization. Our mission consists of three parts:
Support Groups
If you, or someone you care about, has come out as LGBTQ then PFLAG Austin meeting is a great place for you to be! Our free, confidential support group meetings offer a non-judgmental outlet for feelings. If you would prefer to meet outside of a meeting, we can arrange a confidential meeting for your convenience. Contact us for more info.
Education
We are community focused and participate in several events throughout the year to drive awareness and promote education including: school panels, PRIDE Parade and Festival, LGBTQ events, and other community events. We are making a safer world for LGBTQ people and their family members by dispelling myths and communicating the truth about LGBTQ families and friends. PFLAG Austin reaches out to schools, faith communities, and other organizations to encourage leadership that fosters acceptance of diversity. We promote the health and well-being of LGBTQ people, their families, and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten the public; advocacy to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. We provide opportunities for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and act to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity in all its forms.
Advocate
We work to support all advocates for equality, striving to make Central Texas a better place, and use communication to get the word out, including appearances as supporters of LGBTQ advocacy at community events of other nonprofit groups and organizations.
