Basics:
What: Info to join the PFLAG Austin contingent in the Austin Pride Parade 🎉
When: Saturday, 8/12/2023, 7:00 pm
Where: San Jacinto Blvd between 11th St and 15th St. (Map below.)
Timetable (approximate):
6:30 pm PFLAG Austin’s parade vehicle in staging area. (Staging of contingents is from 3pm - 7:30pm.)
7:00 pm You arrive.
8:00 pm Parade’s first contingents step off. We estimate our contingent will probably step off around 9pm - 9:30pm.
Where to park:
The most convenient parking is in State Parking Garage A. It’s about $10, good until 10 am Sunday morning.
Bear in mind that you will need to walk back up the parade route afterwards!It might be better to park West of Congress, somewhere between Cesar Chavez and 11th St, so you don’t have as far to walk afterwards to get back to your car.
It’s a good idea to carpool if you can.
It’s best if your group have at least two cars, parking one at each end.
Allow plenty of time to arrive, find parking, and walk to our contingent!
How to find us:
We will have volunteers walking up and down the staging area with “Follow me to PFLAG Austin” signs to direct you to our contingent’s location.
Parade route:
Down Congress Ave. Main grandstand is on left side just North of 4th St.
Route is about one mile.
De-staging is on Ann Richards Bridge (aka Congress Ave Bridge).
Miscellaneous:
We will have one vehicle, a four-passenger sedan, as our parade vehicle and “pack mule”, also to carry water, etc.
We will have two five-gallon jug of ice water 🧊 💧 . You are highly encouraged to bring your own water bottle to refill from them.
Bring SHADE!!! There is zero shade in the staging area 🥵 . Bring an umbrella ☂️ and sunblock. You will thank us later! (HEB has cool Pride umbrellas!)
We will have lots of different Pride flags (on pole) for you to wave!
On the day off, we will post updates about location of our contingent, info about what’s going on, etc. on the meetup.com event, in the Facebook event (you need to be in our private Facebook group to view), and on our Twitter feed.
Volunteers needed:
We will need help with the following tasks. They’re all fairly easy but there are a lot of tasks so it’d be tough for one or two people to do everything!
During staging:
Two people to walk around with "Follow me to PFLAG Austin" signs to guide our people to our contingent’s location
One person to hand out t-shirts to people in our contingent
During entire event:
One person to post updates on Twitter
One person to post updates in Facebook event
One person to post updates in meetup.com event
During march:
Two people to carry our banner: everybody can help out with
Taking pics and videos and sharing them online, maybe via a Google Photos album or Apple iCloud Photos album. We'd love some high quality pics that we can use for our social media! (Be mindful of people in our contingent who might not want their pics out there. Though, it'd be a challenge to not have one's pics in public, being in a Pride parade!)
